Försvarets materielverk (FMV)
Försvarets materielverk (FMV) is Sweden's defense materiel administration and the principal contracting authority for the Swedish Armed Forces. FMV procures equipment, weapons systems, ICT, and sustainment services on behalf of Försvarsmakten. It is the Swedish counterpart to Norway's Forsvarsmateriell and Germany's BAAINBw.
Etymology / origin
Established 1968 in its modern form, FMV consolidated earlier materiel administrations of the Swedish Army, Navy, and Air Force into a single defense materiel authority. The agency is headquartered in Stockholm.
Where you encounter this term
FMV publishes on TED for above-threshold notices and on its own portal at fmv.se for below-threshold contracts. The agency also lists supplier opportunities through Försvarsmakten's website. FMV procures naval (Gripen sustainment, A26 submarines, Visby-class corvettes), air (Gripen, Globaleye), and land (CV90, BvS10, Archer) systems among others. Sweden's NATO accession in 2024 has aligned FMV with NATO standards including STANAGs and AQAP quality assurance.
Example — from the WULFRN database
Sweden has 2,802 verified defense records in WULFRN, making it the third-largest country in the database after Germany (6,243) and the United States (3,305). The majority of those records originate from FMV via TED.
