Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO)
The Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO), known in Danish as Forsvarsministeriets Materiel- og Indkøbsstyrelse (FMI), is Denmark's central defense materiel agency. DALO procures equipment, weapons systems, and logistics services for the Danish Armed Forces. It is the Danish counterpart to Norway's Forsvarsmateriell and Sweden's FMV.
Etymology / origin
Established 2014 as part of a Danish defense agreement that restructured procurement. DALO is the English-language name; the agency also uses the Danish abbreviation FMI (Forsvarsministeriets Materiel- og Indkøbsstyrelse). Headquartered in Ballerup near Copenhagen.
Where you encounter this term
DALO publishes on TED for above-threshold notices and on udbud.dk (the Danish national procurement portal) for the rest. Major DALO programmes include F-35 sustainment, replacement frigates (Project Iver Huitfeldt), maritime patrol aviation, and ground vehicle modernisation. Suppliers from EEA states are eligible to bid; many DALO contracts require NATO security clearances.
